Statement Regarding Black Lives Matter
Denise Furnari, President of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America (OSDIA), issued the following statement regarding Black Lives Matter.
"OSDIA has a deep-rooted concern for equal justice, non-discrimination, and equal opportunity for all people regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, and sexual identity. These concerns are completely compatible with the goals and focus of Black Lives Matter. Celebrating and respecting diversity is a hallmark of a just and vibrant community that promotes opportunity, growth, and social well-being".
Diane Modica, Chair of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts Commission for Social Justice, added, “The Commission for Social Justice understands that social justice for all people is of paramount importance for a just and fruitful society. We recognize, support, and appreciate the valid meaning and purpose of the Black Lives Matter movement which seeks to effect permanent and lasting social change that eradicates bias, bigotry, racist violence, defamation, and prejudice against Black Americans. Peaceful protests in pursuit of those goals advances the true spirit of the Black Lives Matter movement.“
